And as this quote points out, it's important that the partnership maintain its level of involvement as long as the firm is invested. Too often I see investors suffer from ADD and get bored with a company (even if it's doing well, heck, especially if its doing well) and stop paying much attention. The outcome is rarely positive on the company. An active, involved board and venture firm provides far more value than cash. At least, that's been my experience.

I got a copy of the book as a little prize at the Nantucket Conference and am looking forward to reading it. My first startup, Symbolics Inc, actually was funded by AR&D (among others) (Jean de Valpine was our board member).
