oh man you are so right. I wish tmobile had better coverage in suburbs of boston. kills me.

I don't disagree with the anti-consumer aspect of exclusivity (all carriers are guilty of this), but... Warranty and insurance don't cover negligence, only defects. But the Apple Store may be lenient, it's worth a try. But if not, ATT is telling you wrong. Even if you are within your current contract, it should definitely be at the subsidized price if the contract is getting extended. I've done this, push back.

What an idiot. Do you actually think any of the other carriers would be any different. Out of the bunch, ATT is far superior. Imagine what you would get if Apple would have gone with Sprint or T-Mobile!
  • TatianaT · 11 months ago
T-Mobile replaced one of my phones that I LOST and another one that I GOT WET... doesn't sound like just 'defects' to me.. hmmm... They don't have the best coverage but they are pretty good at customer service.. So, tk I have to disagree with you.. you also seem a little angry...

    I am angry

    I love t-mobile

Been with them for 10 years and they¹ve always done right by me

I had THE WORST EXPERIENCE with AT&T. They are bunch of bastards. I fully support this post.
  • jbeyda · 11 months ago
i agree that ATT sucks, but wasnt ATT the only company that would let Jobs create a phone without any resistance? he tried with verizon and the result was the crappy rkr phone

I completely cracked the screen on my iPhone, booked an appointment with an Apple Genius... told him what happened in a very friendly and non-confrontational manner... he swapped me for a brand new phone on the spot... and encouraged me to buy a case so 'we wouldn't have to have this conversation again.'

My Apple Store was awesome... YMMV.
  • fredwilson · 11 months ago
That¹s a consistent theme. Deal with Apple not AT&T. But it¹s a lot easier
to walk into the AT&T store a block from my office than to book time with a
genius at the Apple store across town. Lesson learned.

That sucks, sorry to hear it. I've been sticking to my out-of-contract t-mo account (with an unlocked original iphone) just to not deal with this sort of lameness until/unless I have to. Plus, the plan is a lot cheaper than ATT.

Can't you just yank his sim card and throw it into your unlocked N95 (i think you had one for awhile)? ... Using a nokia is good punishment for cracking his iphone :)
  • fredwilson · 11 months ago
I tried that and it didn¹t work

The sim card for his iPhone didn¹t work in any of my unlocked phones

That¹s when my pissy attitude started

I want to own my devices and treat the carrier like the dumb pipe that it is

At least you didn't buy the phone over here in Russia where they cost $1,000+ from Beeline, MTS, and Megafon, then you would be REALLY ticked-off.
  • chgokamper · 11 months ago
I am not surprised. AT&T is so cheap. They bleed the customers, because they feel they own them for the 2 yr contract. You should see how they treat their employees. You know they are firing more then 11k employee, actually they're firing more then 11k. But, AT&T will not admit it to the Federal government and state government, AT&T is trying to hide the true total number of employees they are letting go. You think they would cut the cut of the Highly paid managers and Executives, seel a corporate jet or two, etc FIRST. NOPE, they fire the little guys first. AT&T doesn't care about its employees. They just wanna save their fancy lunch in the corporate dinner room.
